Help Armenians in Syria Survive

FLArmenians invite you to come and show your support and contribute to the Florida Syrian Armenian Relief Fund. There are over 100,000 Armenians affected by the deteriorating security situation in Syria, particularly in Aleppo. Our Armenian brothers and sisters have been forced to leave their homes, businesses, schools, and are unable to access basic supplies such as food, clean water and medicine.

The Florida Syrian Armenian Relief Fund Committee, in coordination with the Armenian Apostolic Church of America, A.R.F., A.R.S., Homenetmen, and FLArmenians has organized an informative meeting and fundraiser on Sunday, October 28th at 2:00 PM.

Please help us send as much assistance to the Armenian-Syrian community as possible.

This event is open to the public with a requested donation of $20 per person. A nice lunch, soft drink, dessert and coffee will be served to participants.

In this time of crisis, we hope you can take the time to learn about the dire situation Armenians face in the battle for Syria, and do something to help our Christian brothers and sisters.

Florida Armenians Congratulate Arman Avedyan

Boca Raton, FL – On Sunday, July 23, Florida Armenians gathered at St. David Armenian Church to congratulate Sub-Deacon Arman Avedyan on his acceptance to Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory in Armenia. During this four-year program, Avedyan will train his voice and master the language of music, while embarking on new adventures and a new life in the homeland.

Like many of his friends in south Florida’s growing Armenian-American community, Avedyan started serving God and fellow parishioners at the age of 14. Beginning as an Acolyte on the altar under the guidance of Very Rev. Fr. Nareg Berberian, pastor of St. David Armenian Church, Avedyan began to develop and display his talents, delivering powerful and uplifting renditions of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Badark (Divine Liturgy).

“In January 2012, at my 20th Anniversary banquet in Mardigian Hall of St. David Armenian Church, Arman Avedyan sang “Nessun Dorma” which is an aria from the final act of Puccini’s opera Turandot, and is one of the best-known tenor arias in all opera,” stated Very Rev. Fr. Nareg Berberian. “It was then that I realized he would be a wonderful candidate for the Yerevan Conservatory.  Since that time, all efforts to admit him to the conservatory have succeeded, and I am extremely pleased to see the fruition of all the many years of work in the Deacon’s Training Program at St. David Church have such an exciting result for him.  I am very proud of his accomplishment and am confident he will work hard in continuing his education and nurturing his career at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory in Armenia, and look forward to his success in the future,” stated Fr. Nareg.

Still early in his career, Arman Avedyan has already performed at Florida Atlantic University, Florida Suncoast Opera Guild, Lynn University and various Armenian-American community events throughout Florida. “Years of preliminary training, practice and performances have lead to the opportunity of a lifetime,” Avedyan told FLArmenians. “I cannot wait to begin my studies. This really is a dream come true,” Avedyan said.

Fifth Clergy Conference Held at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin

On June 6th, at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, the Brotherhood held its Fifth Clergy Conference attended by 81 celibate priests from Armenia and the Diaspora, as well as representatives from the Great House of Cilicia and the Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople.  Following the opening prayer, the organizing committee chairman, Very Reverend Fr. Nareg Berberian of St. David Armenian Church in Boca Raton, Florida, began the conference emphasizing the value of having the clergy assemble every other year to benefit all the clergy who are serving in the different Dioceses around the world.  Fr. Nareg Berberian stressed the importance of remaining faithful to the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and to His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of all Armenians, as well as working in unity and sharing our brotherly love toward each other.   On behalf of the Brotherhood, Fr. Nareg Berberian expressed his gratitude to His Holiness for his fraternal care.

Then His Holiness delivered his message and gave his blessing in appreciation of their ministry of service.  His Holiness stressed the presence of all the clergy here strengthens and optimistically inspires the church for future generations.  His Holiness reminded them that they not only stay connected with their fellow brothers, but also, as brothers in Christ to focus and reflect on their ministry and its role in the life of the church.  His Holiness advised them to continue zealously to build up the glory of the Armenian Church with the Christ and our fathers as their spiritual leaders.   At the end of his message, His Holiness wished they would stay firm in their vocation and accomplish more in keeping the faith of our people strong as they serve in the vineyard of our Lord.

The subject matter of the conference was how the clergy can spread the teachings of the church through social media.  The speaker of this theme was Artur Petrossyan, Director of Communication of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church.  Following the PowerPoint presentation, the clergy were divided into four groups to discuss how they can enhance communication between the community and the pastor through the use of the internet, as well as how they can offer spiritual messages to their flock through the same media.

There was one day set aside for missionary outreach in the region of Armavir.  More than 120 clergy were dispersed into the different towns and villages to visit families, bless their homes, and visit schools, hospitals and youth centers.  On Saturday evening, around midnight, in the Mother See Cathedral, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated and members of the Brotherhood renewed their vocation to serve our Lord and returned back to their parishes with renewed inspiration.
