Armenian Church of Southwest Florida Celebrates First Badark Service of 2012
Bonita Beach, Florida – On January 15, the Armenian Church of Southwest Florida celebrated their first Badarak service of 2012. Over 100 parishioners from across southwest Florida were present to welcome Very Rev. Fr. Simeon Odabashian, Diocesan Vicar of the Armenian Church of America. Florida Armenian local Mr. Vartkes Karaian served as Godfather of the Cross during the Blessing of the Water. A delicious luleh kebab dinner followed the service where guests renewed old friendships and welcomed new parishioners to the growing Armenian community in southwest Florida.

The Very Rev. Fr. Simeon Odabashian will celebrate the first Badarak of the season on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Bonita Springs, Florida. Service will begin promptly at 1:00 pm. Advanced reservations for a luleh kebab luncheon (advanced reservations only) will follow Badarak. The next Badarak service will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 1:00 pm. Mark Mustian Upcoming Book Reading in Naples
Mark Mustian, author of the award-winning novel The Gendarme, will read and sign books at the Armenian-American Cultural Society’s winter event scheduled for Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Stonebridge Country Club, 2100 Winding Oaks Way, Naples, Florida 34109, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
Mustian is also scheduled to speak at the Sarasota Public Library on March 2, 2012 for an event entitled, A Way with Words: Connecting Writers and Readers.
The Gendarme, which portrays a 92-year old man who fought for the Ottomans in World War I and only late in life begins to recall some of the things that happened at the beginning of the war—including the deportation of Armenians from Anatolia in the 1915 Armenian Genocide—is the 2010 Gold Florida Book Award winner for general fiction, and has been published in nine languages.
